Next NC Scholarship
The Next NC Scholarship combines the federal Pell Grant with state-funded financial aid to provide at least $3,000 for full-time enrollment at any of the 58 North Carolina community colleges or at least $5,000 at any of the 16 North Carolina four-year public universities if you have an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) no greater than $80,000 and a Student Aid Index (SAI) no greater than 7,500. Students with the greatest need for financial aid could qualify for even more funding.
- Be a North Carolina resident as defined by North Carolina Residency Manual
- Enroll for at least 6 credit hours
- Be admitted, enrolled, and classified as an undergraduate student in matriculated status in a degree, certificate, or diploma program at one of the 16 institutions of The University of North Carolina or at a North Carolina Community College
Priority Date:
June 1 for UNC Institutions
August 15 for Community Colleges
- Colleges may set different priority dates to assist in awarding of financial aid other than the Next NC Scholarship. Check the priority date for your college to ensure timely FAFSA filing and access to other types of financial aid, but file your FAFSA even if the priority date for your college and/or the Next NC Scholarship priority date has passed as some funding, including Federal grants and loans, will still be available.
North Carolina Need-Based Scholarship for Private College Students
- Be a North Carolina resident as well as a North Carolina resident student for tuition purposes, as defined by North Carolina Residency Manual
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate student in at least 6 credit hours at a qualifying private North Carolina campus
- Meet requirements for the Federal Pell Grant (except the Student Aid Index (SAI) used for Federal Pell Grant awards)
North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program
- New program established by the North Carolina General Assembly in July 2017
- Forgivable loan to be used for tuition fees and the cost of books leading to teacher licensure
- Must be committed to teaching special education or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field in an NC public school
The Dream Opportunity Scholarship
- Applicant must be a high school senior with 2.8 GPA or higher
- Applicant must have no previous enrollment in 4 yr institution
- Applicant willing to relocate in order to enroll at one of the Partner Colleges
CR Legal Team Chairman’s Scholarship
- Be a graduating high school senior
- Be a resident of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, or Alabama
- Plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university in the coming Fall
CR Legal Team Next Step Scholarship
- Must be a community college student who will be transferring to an accredited 4-year college or university in the coming fall
- Have at least a 3.2 GPA
Duke Energy Hispanics in Engineering Scholarship
- Must be a student of Hispanic/Latino background that attends one of NC's high schools
- Planning to enroll at a North Carolina community college or a university and to pursue the fields of electrical, mechanical, nuclear, chemical, or civil engineering
Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Scholarship Fund
- Must be a member of a North or South Carolina credit union (parent accounts do not qualify).
- Must have a non-weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- All applicants are eligible for consideration by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation for its academic and needs-based scholarships, including credit union employees.
North Carolina 4-H Development Fund Scholarships
- The recipient must be a resident of North Carolina, enrolling in an accredited North Carolina college or university
- Have an outstanding record of 4-H Club participation and achievement
- Possess an excellent high school academic record and demonstrate an aptitude for college work through SAT scores
The ANSWER Scholarship
- Must be a “nontraditional” female student age 25 or older
- Must be a mom of school-age children, preK-12th grade
- Must be a US citizen and resident Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly or Union County.
Truliant Credit Union
- Demonstrated academic ability A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 is required to be eligible for scholarship funding.
- Demonstrated writing ability – Applicants must submit an essay on the topic listed in the application.
- School and Community activities – Applicants should list all school activities and unrelated school activities that occurred in the community and explain which activity is most important and why
Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship
- Be a North Carolina High School senior planning to attend a North Carolina college or university
- Essay required
- The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of merit of the individual essay (75%), scholarship and character (20%), and need (5%).
Matthew C. Graziadei Achievement Scholarship
- North Carolina high school senior with a disability
- Students receiving a graduation certificate enrolled in the Future Ready Course of Study or enrolled in the Occupational Course of Study
Local Government Federal Credit Union Scholarship
- LGFCU member in good standing (not overdrawn on Checking or Share Accounts, and has not defaulted on LGFCU loans)
- Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0
- Be a full-time graduate, undergraduate or trade school student
American Council of the Blind
North Carolina Scholarship for Children of Wartime Veterans
- Must be children (under age 25 at time of application) of certain deceased or disabled veterans or of veterans who were listed as POW/MIA
- Veteran's disabilities must have occurred during a period of war
- Veteran must have been a legal resident of North Carolina at time of entry into service, or child must have been born in North Carolina and resided there continuously
American Foundation for the Blind
Hispanic Scholarship Fund
- Must be of Hispanic heritage
- Student must graduate from an NC H.S. despite the wish to go to college outside of NC. Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school, in the US
- US Citizen, Permanent Legal Resident, DACA or Eligible Non-Citizen (as defined by FAFSA)
Pearl Berlin Scholarship
- Must be a resident of Guilford, Forsyth, Rockingham, Randolph or Alamance County, North Carolina.
- Must be a graduating high school senior entering an accredited institution of higher education in the fall.
- Must be a self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or straight ally.
Red Thread Scholarship Awards
- Women of an international background, including foreign students, immigrants, or first-generation Americans, who are first-year entrants to a U.S. college or university program in Fall
- There are no GPA or U.S. residency requirements
- The application includes several short-answer questions, two essays, and two letters of recommendation
The Dream National Scholarship
- High school or community college graduates
- Need to have DACA or TPS
- Need to qualify for in-state tuition at one of the Partner Colleges
Assistance League of the Triangle Scholarship - Graduating High School Seniors
- Plan to enroll as freshmen at any of the North Carolina's post-secondary educational or technical institutions
- Reside in Wake, Durham or Orange counties
- Be a U.S. Citizen or have permanent resident status
Assistance League of the Triangle Scholarship - Students Pursuing Post-Secondary Education
- Currently attend or plan to enroll at any post-secondary educational or technical institution in North Carolina to pursue a certificate, diploma, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree.
- Reside in Wake, Durham or Orange counties
- Be a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status
Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholarship
- Be a graduating NC HS senior and permanent resident of Alamance, Bertie, Caswell, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Person, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Swain or Warren county
- Plan to enroll for the first time as a full-time degree-seeking student at N.C. State University, UNC-Chapel Hill, or UNC-Greensboro
- Demonstrate financial aid need as determined by the application process; have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Student Aid Index (SAI) that does not exceed $12,000
Forgivable Education Loans for Service
- Be a legal North Carolina resident and NC resident for tuition purposes
- Be willing to work in NC in a designated critical employment shortage profession (careers corresponding with a FELS Approved Program)
- Must plan to enroll in at least part-time in an Approved Program at an Eligible Institution
Golden LEAF Colleges and Universities Scholarship
- Be a graduating NC HS senior or current NC community college transfer student planning to enroll for the first time as a full-time degree seeking student at an eligible NC college or university.
- Be a resident of an eligible rural county as identified by the Golden LEAF Foundation.
- Demonstrate financial aid need as determined by the application process; have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Student Aid Index (SAI) that does not exceed $15,000 and meet other eligibility requirements such as residency and cumulative GPA.
Golden LEAF Community College Scholarship
- Be enrolled in a North Carolina community college.
- Be a permanent resident of a qualifying rural county that is economically distressed and/or tobacco dependent.
- Demonstrate financial need.
Felicia Brewer Opportunity Scholarship
- Must be a current student or alumni of a Chapel Hill-Carrboro City High School
- Must be an immigrant, refugee, or first-generation US citizen
- There are no residency, GPA, or plan of study requirements

- Must be able to demonstrate community service involvement and provide 2 recommendations, an essay, resume and transcripts
- Minimum 2.5 weighted GPA or higher
Assistance League of Charlotte Scholarship - UNC System
- Be a US citizen or permanent resident graduating high school senior attending a high school located in Mecklenburg County and no relations to an Assistance League of Charlotte member with demonstrated financial need enrolling full time for the fall following the spring semester at 1 of the 16 campuses of the University of North Carolina System
- Must be able to demonstrate community service involvement and provide 2 recommendations, an essay, resume and transcripts
- Have a minimum 1100 on the SAT or minimum of 21 on the ACT with a 3.0 weighted GPA or higher
Business and Professional Women of the Triangle
- Your home address must be in the North Carolina counties of Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham, or Johnston (but you can attend school outside these areas).
- Be a woman who is currently enrolled (full or part-time) at an accredited college, university, or institution of higher education. NOTE: Current high school students are not eligible to apply, even if you're taking college courses.
- Be in good academic standing.
Fontana Transport Inc. Scholars Program
- First-generation high school seniors who are underrepresented, need financial assistance and are passionate about furthering their education
- Applicants do not have to be a U.S. citizen, but they must have a minimum 3.5 weighted GPA and graduate a US high school in Spring or Summer
- Applicants will need proof of attending a 4-year university beginning Fall
CFIC - Everett & Trudy Suddreth Scholarship of Excellence
- NC residents who are high school seniors entering college in the fall, college freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are affiliated with CFIC member companies

NC Region Sports Car Club of America Scholarship Program
- Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes

NC Retail Merchants Scholarship
- NC residents who are high school seniors entering college in the fall, college freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are affiliated with NCRMA member firms
- Students who work or have a parent or spouse who works in the retail industry
- Average to above-average academic range
The Mike Beard Memorial Scholarship
- NC students only
- Must have an unweighted GPA OF 3.8 or weighted GPA of 4.2
- Must have signed an NLI to play a college sport
Beacon Scholarship for Rural America
- Be college-bound graduating high school seniors, current college students, or adult learners with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (high school or college) who are planning to enroll in an accredited college program.
- Must live in a rural county/parish/borough and qualify as low income
Finish Line Grants
- Be enrolled in a North Carolina Community College
- Be in good academic standing as defined by the community college. Threshold may not be higher than a 2.0 GPA
- Have completed at least 50% of the degree or credential program (or be enrolled in the courses that will constitute 50% completion)
Jagannathan Scholarships
- Be a graduating senior planning to enroll as college freshmen in a full-time degree program at one of the institutions of The University of North Carolina
- Be a resident of North Carolina for tuition purposes
- Have demonstrated academic achievement (as indicated by class rank, cumulative GPA, and SAT scores), leadership, and financial need
NC Reach
- Have either been adopted from NC Division of Social Services (DSS) foster care after the age of 12, or aged out of NC DSS foster care at age 18 (must have been in care on their 18th birthday)
- Be a resident of North Carolina, eligible for in-state tuition rates
- Enroll at either a state community college or one of the 16 institutions of the University of North Carolina system, at least half time, pursuing an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate
NC Sheriffs Association Undergraduate Criminal Justice Scholarships
- Be an undergraduate majoring in criminal justice at a UNC institution or an NC Private institution (NCICU) that has a criminal justice degree program
- Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes
- Be enrolled full-time
Penn Family Scholarship
- Be a resident of Rockingham County
- Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes
- Be enrolled full-time or part-time as an undergraduate student in one of the 16 UNC campuses in a degree-granting program
State Employees' Credit Union Foundation "People Helping People" Scholarship - Community College Program
- Be an applicant or full-time student who is a high school graduate or has completed the General Education Development (GED) program, enrolled in an associate degree, diploma or certificate program.
- Be a U.S. citizen and a resident of North Carolina eligible for in-state tuition.
- Demonstrate scholastic achievement and maintain a 2.5 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale or attain a score of 3,000 on the GED test.
- Each community college has its own committee that selects the recipients from that school; students should contact the Financial Aid Office at their college for the official deadline date.
State Employees' Credit Union Foundation "People Helping People" Scholarship - High School Scholarship Program
- Be a senior at a North Carolina public high school accepted into one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina.
- Demonstrate scholastic achievement with a 2.5 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and be deserving of financial aid.
- Must either be a SECU member or eligible for membership through a parent/guardian who is an SECU member.
- Each school district has its own committee that selects the recipients from that district; students should contact their school for the official deadline date.
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate student in a postsecondary educational institution that has chosen to participate in the TEACH Grant Program.
- Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.25
- Sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve and Promise to Pay
Coast Guard College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative Program (CSPI)
- Score 1100 combined Critical Reading and Mathematics on the SAT, 23 on the ACT, or ASVAB GT of 109 or higher or ASTB: 4 AQR/ 4 PFAR
- Be a sophomore or junior (with at least 60 college credits completed toward your degree)
- Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher
